Arianespace will use an Ariane 5 ECA rocket, designated VA231, to launch the DSN 1 and GSAT 18 communications satellites. DSN 1 is a X-band communications satellite built and operated by DSN Corp. on behalf of the Japanese Ministry of Defense. GSAT 18 is a multipurpose communications satellite for the Indian Space Research Organization.
